Coronavirus (Covid-19) and Your Marsden
The health and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues and communities is extremely important to us. Whether you save with us, or have a mortgage with us, you’ll find details of how we can support you below.
We ask that you only visit our branches if your transaction is essential. If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19, or are waiting for test results, please do not enter the branch. This is for the safety of our colleagues, and our customers.
Managing your money from home
We’ve introduced various ways to help you manage your money from home.
Withdrawing funds if you have a passbook-based account:
Next day faster payments to a nominated bank account
You can send next day faster payments to a nominated bank account (which must be held in your name). You can do this;
- Online: If you register, or are already registered, for our eSavings platform you will be able to view your branch-based accounts online. Until further notice, you’ll be able to request a next day faster payment from these accounts to the nominated bank account you specify, once it has been verified with a paper bank statement or electronic check. Follow the steps to set up your account here.
- Over the phone: If you would like to set up a nominated bank account for next day faster payments over the phone, contact our savings team on 01282 440500*. They will need to verify the bank account with a paper bank statement or electronic check. Once verified, you will be able to request next day faster payments over the phone.
Withdrawing funds if you have a direct account:
If you have a direct account, you can call or write to us to request your funds. If you have a nominated bank account set up, we can pay your funds directly to this account instead of issuing a cheque. If you do not have a nominated bank account set up and would like funds sending directly to a bank account rather than receiving a cheque, you will need to provide us with a paper bank statement, or your bank details to carry out an electronic check. This can be done over the phone. Once set up, you’ll be able to withdraw funds straight to your nominated account.
Withdrawing funds if you have an e-savings account:
If you have an e-savings account, you can continue to access your money as normal. Submit your request on the eSavings platform and your funds will be sent out to your nominated bank account.
Paying in to your accounts
If you need to pay money in to your accounts, you can do so in the following ways;
- Cheque posted to your local branch or to our Freepost address: Freepost RTLA-TGGS-ZKXB, Marsden Building Society, 6-20 Russell Street, Nelson, BB9 7NJ
- Electronic bank transfer from your bank account using sort code: 60-94-95 and the last 8 digits of the Marsden account you are paying into as the account number.
We’ve also introduced ‘pay by link’ to help you pay in your funds during this time. To use this service, you will need to contact us by telephone on 01282 440500 and tell us how much you’d like to pay in to your account, up to a maximum of £1,000, and which account the funds should go to. You will then receive an email to your registered email address which will contain these details and a link for you to pay money in by UK debit card only.
You can pay cash or cheques in at your local branch but we ask that you only do this if the transaction is essential. If the transaction is not essential, you may be asked to come back another time.
You will be able to check payments in and out of your accounts if you are registered to use our eSavings platform.
A safe place for your money
Established in 1860, the Marsden has been trusted by you for generations. The Society is strong and stable so there is no need to worry about your money.
Your eligible deposits with the Society are protected up to a total of £85,000 for sole accounts (£170,000 for joint accounts) by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the UK’s deposit protection scheme. More information about the FSCS and how your savings are protected can be found at www.fscs.org.uk.
